One of Tulsa's first suburbs
Maple Ridge is a suburb of Tulsa recognized for its ample history and distinguished architecture. “Maple Ridge is one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in Tulsa,” says the secretary and Preservation Commission Representative of the Maple Ridge Neighborhood Association, John Spillyards. “It’s the first suburb, although it’s adjacent to downtown back when it was founded in 1907.” It’s often that neighbors in this area become family. Then, it’s also within walking distance of the best parks and top restaurants in the area. “It’s a diverse neighborhood. Everyone has been so cool, so laid back, some of the best friends we’ve made," Spillyards says. “We’re so happy how down to earth the people are in Maple Ridge.”

Eclectic mixture of early century houses
“They’re just one-of-a-kind and exquisite details. There are about 3,000 homes in Maple Ridge,” says Spillyards. “When you’re north between 21st and 15th, and around Peoria and Cincinnati is what we call historic overlay district. That part of Maple Ridge is so historic that it’s protected.” Most houses were built in the early century during the suburb’s development, but each has its own character. “There’s many homes in the neighborhood within the National Register of Historic Places,” Spillyards says. “So, it’s a special neighborhood.” There’s an eclectic mixture of styles from smaller bungalows, larger contemporary and Spanish-style properties, or million-dollar mansions near the Gathering Place. Prices here range from $250,000 to $1.5 million.

The Gathering Place is right in the neighborhood walls. It’s considered one of the best in the city and the country. Most recently, it was named in TripAdvisor’s Top 10% of Attractions Worldwide in 2023. “The Gathering Place was one of USA Today’s Park of the Year two years back, beating out Central Park,” Spillyards says. “It’s an unbelievable park and trail system. Maple Ridge is just adjacent to that.” Residents can enjoy several outdoor activities but also take advantage of the various attractions, including the multi-story fireplaces, the boathouse, a sensory garden, and a reading tree. Maple Park is to the area’s north, having a nice playground for the kiddos and a hiking trail that offers picturesque city views. Woodward Park and Gardens is adjacent to the area’s east side. Locals can stroll through the fields of the two public gardens and admire the architecture of the Mansion at Woodward Park and The Barn.

Adjacent to Sobo and Cherry Street
South Boston, or as locals say, Sobo, is a booming area with some of Tulsa's best restaurants and entertainment options. “There you got TXMZ, which is tacos and mezcal, and it has upscale street tacos and gourmet mezcal cocktails,” Spillyards says. Mercury Lounge is one of Tulsa’s most iconic dive bars. It’s a neighborhood favorite for its almost daily live music for local and touring bands. While jamming to the sounds, folks sip on their selection of beers and cocktails. Residents are also adjacent to the famous Cherry Street, which features restaurants and shopping exclusive to Tulsa. Less than two miles away sits nearby grocers Reasor's, Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods.
