Ventura Beach is around a 6-mile drive south of North Avenue and is one of the most popular recreation spots in the city. Visitors can be found swimming, surfing and sunbathing. Nearby, Emma Wood State Beach is a protected oceanfront park with hiking trails, swimming and camping. Anglers can cast a line into the Ventura River estuary for bass, corbina and perch. The Channel Islands are visible from the shore and can be accessed by taking the roughly hour-and-a-half ferry ride from Harbor Cove.

Extracurricular activities at Ventura High School
E.P. Foster Elementary School is a short drive south on Ventura Avenue and earns a C-plus grade from Niche. Sixth through eighth graders can attend De Anza Academy of Technology and the Arts, which receives a B grade, and focuses on technology and project-based learning opportunities. The A-minus-rated Ventura High School offers nine career and technical education pathways, from patient care and environmental resources to robotics and welding. The school also hosts a variety of extracurricular activities, including clubs centered around film, drama and philosophy.

Taco Tuesdays on North Ventura Avenue
North Ventura Avenue is dotted with small local businesses, including Maggie’s on the Avenue, which serves classic Mexican cuisine, known for their burritos and tamales. “Taco Tuesday is a big deal in the North Avenue area,” says Love. “Lots of the eateries around here will have deals for tacos. Doña Raquel is one of the local favorites.” A quick drive south, Lovewell Tea and Coffee has rotating baked goods and seasonal drinks. KC’s Market has a small selection of snacks and essentials, while around 4 miles south is a larger selection at Vons. Downtown Ventura experiences an active and busy atmosphere during the summer season at its dozens of restaurants and local shops. Finney’s Crafthouse is a popular family owned California chain with craft brews on tap and pub fare.
Maggie's in North Avenue is also a popular restaurant in the area.
Locals of North Avenue can head on over to Vons to get all of their groceries.

Take Gold Coast Transit across Ventura
State Route 33 runs through North Avenue, roughly 5 miles south to downtown Ventura or about 11 miles north to Ojai. There are also numerous bus stops lining North Avenue, with Gold Coast Transit operating 25 routes throughout Ventura and Oxnard.
