Action off South Mooney
Mooney is a desired suburb with a happening main drag just west of downtown Visalia. “Anyone from Visalia knows that Mooney is the hub,” says Melissa Sanchez of Modern Broker, who has 20 years of experience in the area. “All of the shopping and dining you need is either downtown on Main or on Mooney, but downtown has stopped growing, and Mooney continues to keep growing to the south.” South Mooney Avenue is the major artery that pumps life into the neighborhood. Flanked by dozens of restaurants, a pair of malls and recreational areas, Mooney Avenue intersects the neighborhood from north to south. As the residential area continues to grow south of Visalia, as does the commercial development along Mooney Avenue with grocery stores and national chains popping up every day.

Things have come full circle, as Sequoia Mall is once again the place to go for shopping and dining. “I joke that I’m going to make a music video about Sequoia Mall to the tune of ‘Return of the Mack’ by Mark Morrison,” says Sanchez. “It was the hot spot when I was growing up, and then no one went there, but 20 years later, they’ve developed it so much, and it’s the spot again.” The mall has recently added a Sprouts and a wine store.
