About Westgate, FL

Palm Beach County community with West Palm Beach's amenities

Westgate is a small community within Palm Beach County that offers many of the same perks of living in West Palm Beach, including proximity to the ocean. However, compared to West Palm Beach, Westgate’s homes are considerably less expensive. “For less than a half-million dollars, you're just a hop, skip and a jump from the beach,” says Josh Glasser, owner and managing broker of The Meta Group Florida. “It’s hard to find single-family homes so close to the beach in the $400,000 range.”

Midcentury-era ranch-style homes and modern bungalows along residential streets

Westgate’s residential streets are lined with small, ranch-style homes built in the 1950s. They often feature three bedrooms and span about 1,000 square feet. Some homes are from the 2020s, rebuilt from the ground up. These modern bungalows also feature three bedrooms. Lawns are often landscaped with palm trees and ringed with low fences. The median price for single-family homes is about $400,000, much less than West Palm Beach.

Westgate Park and Recreation Center offers indoor pickleball, golf at West Palm Beach Golf Course

Westgate Park and Recreation Center is the main green space in the community. The nine-acre park features basketball courts, athletic fields, a playground and a splash pad. The recreation center has indoor basketball, volleyball and pickleball courts reserved for users 18 and over. Off Dogwood Road is Golfview Heights Park, a fenced pocket park featuring a colorful playground. Palm Beach’s sandy shores are about 5 miles away. Golfers can pick from several nearby clubs: West Palm Beach Golf Course, which is public, and Bear Lakes Country Club and Trump International Club, both private.

Shopping and dining along Okeechobee Boulevard, close to Downtown West Palm Beach

Residents pick up groceries and other essentials at Walmart off Belvedere Road. Shopping centers near Okeechobee Boulevard feature retailers and services, and La Tapatía Supermarket on Westgate Avenue is another option for food shopping. Okeechobee Boulevard features restaurants, including the locally owned Okeechobee Steak House, which has served the area for over 75 years. Additional shopping and dining options are available in the Palm Beach Lakes neighborhood and Downtown West Palm Beach. The closest medical centers are HCA Florida JFK North Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center, about 7 miles away.

Residents head into West Palm Beach for regular events

West Palm Beach offers regular events that Westgate residents have easy access to. Screen on the Green is a family-friendly movie night every second Friday of the month on the Great Lawn downtown. Fourth on Flagler celebrates Independence Day, and the WPD GreenMarket is the city’s popular monthly farmer’s market.

Palm Beach International Airport is next door, Interstate 95 is nearby

Westgate sits just north of Palm Beach International Airport. Interstate 95 is not far from the community’s east side and runs throughout the state. Palm Tran buses stop along Okeechobee Boulevard.

Hurricanes and other major weather events are possible, but not common

Westgate’s location near the coast can make it vulnerable to hurricanes. However, its location in the southeast section of the state often protects it from major weather events. The county’s website offers resources to help residents stay prepared for “hurricane season,” which runs from June to November. Crime statistics for Westgate are not readily available.
