A SoCal suburb once known for citrus and walnuts

"West Whittier-Los Nietos stands as a captivating blend of past and present, where history blends seamlessly with modern life," says Realtor Jeff Symon, who works with Real Brokerage Technologies and has a few years of experience in the area. With development dating to the 1860s, the area is one of the earliest established in Southern California. Located in Los Angeles County, West Whitter-Los Nietos was named for Quaker poet and abolitionist John Greenleaf Whittier as well as the Spanish translation of "the grandchildren." Early Whittier became notable for its walnut and citrus production. Today it's a family-friendly suburb known for its public parks and convenience. "It's a 5-minute drive to bustling Uptown Whittier, the city's center," Symon says. "There's been a lot of money invested here over the years."

West Whittier-Los Nietos has a variety of single-family homes

East of downtown Los Angeles, West Whittier-Los Nietos is mostly composed of blocks of single-family homes. The residential streets are lined with palm and cypress trees, some featuring distant mountain views. Many of the yards also have palm trees as well as garden beds with hedges. Driveways are standard, and there’s plenty of street parking. Most homes here were built between the 1920s through the 1960s. Some houses have a Mediterranean style with archways and stucco exteriors, but midcentury ranch-style homes are predominant. Ranch-style homes range from $650,000 to $1 million, while Mediterranean homes range from $800,000 to $900,000. There are also a few mobile home parks within the neighborhood. Manufactured homes range from $100,000 to $200,000.
