Two Rivers' luxury living and exclusive country club
With an exclusive country club, luxury homes and access to riverfront recreation, Two Rivers is among the most desirable neighborhoods in the Williamsburg area. “They have some really beautiful homes on the water,” says Randy Haufe, an associate broker with Shaheen, Ruth, Martin & Fonville Real Estate. The neighborhood is indeed located at the confluence of two rivers — the Chickahominy and the James — about 20 minutes from downtown Williamsburg and an hour from Richmond. “They have big lots and wide streets. It’s well manicured," says Haufe, who has sold in Williamsburg for nearly a decade. "It’s very pretty out there.”
Two Rivers Country Club offers a private golf course and marina
Two Rivers Country Club is at the heart of its namesake neighborhood. The private course is ranked one of the top 25 courses in Virginia, according to Golf Digest. Several holes run alongside the water, and the club also features an outdoor pool, a beach on the James River, a fitness center and a marina. The 100-dock facility offers residents water access, though nonresidents can join as a marina member. Haufe says the clubhouse is undergoing renovations, adding event spaces and a wine tasting room among other features. Just off Route 5 on the riverbank, Chickahominy Riverfront Park offers a swimming pool, a fishing pier and a boat ramp. Visitors can rent kayaks and canoes or spend the night at the campsite.
Upscale Colonial Revival homes, including waterfront estates
Much of Two Rivers is still wooded, providing the neighborhood with seclusion and privacy. While a few properties sit off long private drives, most homes are within the upscale Governor’s Land at Two Rivers community. Development began in the community in the early 1990s, though some newer builds are scattered throughout. Colonial Revival homes sell for $690,000 to $1 million, while larger luxury houses and waterfront properties sell for $1 million to $2.2 million. The neighborhood’s CAP Index Crime Score is 1 out of 10, lower than the national figure of 4.
Highly rated WJCC schools, including Jamestown High
Students in Two Rivers can attend Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools, which receive an overall A-minus grade from Niche. Matoaka Elementary receives an A-minus grade, and Hornsby Middle gets a B-plus. A-rated Jamestown High offers dual enrollment, including courses at Virginia Peninsula Community College. William & Mary, which enrolls 7,000 students, is roughly 9 miles away in the center of Williamsburg.
Dining at the country club, or closer to Williamsburg
Members of the Two Rivers Country Club have access to its restaurants and bars, including the Osprey Bar & Grille and the Terrace Bar overlooking the 18th hole of the golf course. Otherwise, residents can head toward the center of Williamsburg for shopping and dining. The Monticello Marketplace shopping center is 7 miles away and features a Publix and a Target. New Town has more options, 8 miles from Two Rivers, including restaurants like the Brass Tap or Opus 9 Steakhouse. Billsburg Brewery is 7 miles away in Jamestown, with seasonal brews and weekly live music.
Community events center on the club, including holiday celebrations
Community events in Two Rivers center on the country club. Members can join in activities like book clubs, the Wine Society or the Yacht Club. The community also puts on holiday celebrations like an Independence Day parade and fireworks, plus a golf tournament. “It’s very social because everyone’s required to be a member of the country club,” Haufe says of Governor’s Land at Two Rivers. Otherwise, residents can head into Williamsburg for its entertainment and events. Downtown Williamsburg hosts a weekly farmers market each Saturday, while the 2nd Sundays Art & Music Festival features local performers and vendors once a month.
Route 5 runs between Richmond and Williamsburg
John Tyler Highway, also known as Route 5, is the main road through Two Rivers. The highway crosses the Chickahominy River on the Judith Stewart Dresser Bridge and heads 55 miles west to Richmond. Locals mainly fly out of Richmond International Airport. The town center of Williamsburg is 10 miles in the other direction. Riverside Doctors’ Hospital Williamsburg is the closest hospital, roughly 12 miles away.
