Urban living next to Downtown Wilmington’s Riverfront
Hedgeville is a densely populated neighborhood in the heart of Wilmington with walkable restaurants and a tree-covered central park. The community sits just west of Interstate 95 and within walking distance of Wilmington Station, making it easy for Center City commuters to get to work. After a long week, workers can hop off the train and head straight to the Riverfront boardwalk to watch the sunset on the Christina River. The prospect of living next to The Riverfront is one of the neighborhood's biggest selling points. Real estate agent John Keating of RE/MAX says, “The addition of the Riverfront has brought a lot of new faces to Wilmington.” He adds, “In Hedgeville, you have young people just getting started and others who have lived here for decades.”

South Dupont Street offers detached homes with more green space
Hedgeville’s historic rowhomes date back to the early 1900’s and reflect similar Italianate and Victorian architectural styles. Some share front porches, with only a thin wrought iron fence separating each home from its neighbor. Others have front doors leading straight onto the concrete sidewalk. These two-story sturdy townhomes wrap around city blocks adjacent to the highway, causing noise levels to be higher than neighborhoods further west. Cars are usually parked along the curb since most properties don’t feature any form of private parking; although, a car isn’t necessarily needed in Hedgeville with Downtown Wilmington and the train station just a half mile away. The average listing price here is about $175,000. Some of the most recently renovated townhomes can cost over $200,000, but very few exceed $250,000.

More longtime neighborhood pubs and family-owned restaurants line South Union Street about a half my west of Kosciuszko Park. Corner markets tucked away in old rowhomes have everyday necessities and select groceries, while produce and regular supermarket items are across the street at The Fresh Grocer of Adams Plaza.
