“Winder still has that small-town, ‘southern hospitality feel,’ but they’re developing the downtown area,” Belcher says. The expansion has included numerous local restaurants. At Latin Flavors Steakhouse, residents can dine on ribeye and sip cocktails while enjoying the rooftop views of downtown Winder. The restaurant also features a speakeasy downstairs for late-night drinks. There’s also Bistro Off Broad, which serves French-inspired dishes from farm-to-table ingredients. Le Gabrielle Crepes and Waffles serves eggs benedict and mimosas for brunch. After dining, residents can stroll downtown and shop at local businesses, like The Rustic Rack Boutique. Retail strip malls offer further shopping options. For groceries and everyday essentials, there’s Publix and Aldi.

Winder properties often sit on larger, shaded lots along curving streets, but new developments are arranged on tight, gridded streets. Hot air balloon rides at the Jug Tavern Festival
The city of Winder hosts numerous community events throughout the year. During the summer, residents can gather at Jug Tavern Park for cornhole competitions or enjoy s’mores and tenting overnight at the Stargaze and Slumber event. Winder hosts an annual Halloween event with trick-or-treating, and an annual holiday parade and tree lighting in December. In early November, there’s the Jug Tavern Festival, which includes hot air balloon rides, carnival rides and live music.

Career preparation at Winder-Barrow High
Winder residents are served by Barrow County Schools, a district that earns a B-plus on Niche. Kids may start at Statham Elementary, which receives a B-minus rating. Students continue learning at B-rated Bear Creek Middle and Winder-Barrow High, which gets a B-plus. The high school offers dual enrollment through Lanier Technical College, allowing students to earn college credits while working toward their high school diplomas.
