Active exurb and bedroom community miles north of Twin Cities
The furious rumbling of motorcycles occasionally fills the air during summers in Wyoming, Minnesota. Those rides are just some of the activities in this bedroom community located about a half-hour north of the Twin Cities. Along with neighbor Forest Lake, Wyoming offers an outdoor-friendly exurb, mainly due to the area’s numerous lakes and fishing holes.
“I’m fond of it just because of the diversity. You can ride your dirt bikes on your personal property, you can shoot guns, you can make endless noise and then irritate some of the people who moved out of the cities to be in the peace and quiet,” quips Mike Haseltine, a native of the area and the founding pastor of Wyoming’s Maranatha Assembly of God church.

Spanning 21 miles, the Sunrise Prairie Regional Trail connects the city to its neighbors.
The Maranatha Assembly of God also has a weight room and offers karate and boxing. Like much of the Twin Cities area, Wyoming keeps an outdoor ice rink. The city has also been raising funds for its Railroad Park project, which will add walking paths and a veterans’ memorial.

Halloween’s Sugar Rush and bike shows
Annual events include May’s Bike Rodeo and August’s public safety-themed Night to Unite. Around Halloween, the Maranatha Assembly of God hosts Sugar Rush. The event typically draws over 1,000 people and invites children to play dozens of games for candy. June’s Blessing of the Bikes sees motorcyclists ride through the church’s parking lot and lobby. The church follows up the biking event with an August car show that usually brings out a few thousand people. The institution will even pour a patch of concrete to allow the cars to do burnouts.
