Charles E. Gorton High School celebrates 100th year
Yonkers Public Schools, which serves the area, has open enrollment and receives a B from Niche. School 5 receives a C-plus and serves prekindergarten through eighth grade. Charles E. Gorton High School receives a B-minus and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2024. Saunders Trades & Technical High School receives a B-plus and is listed as one of the best magnet high schools in New York. The school is part of the school district and lasts four to six years. In that time, students receive a high school diploma and a technical, occupational or vocational degree.

Commuters use public transportation and Saw Mill River Parkway
The Park is bordered by Interstate 87, leading to LaGuardia Airport, 19 miles away. Saw Mill River Parkway takes commuters to New York City in 50 minutes. While the proximity of these two roadways is convenient, those living close to the roadway may hear nearby traffic. Bus stops along the Bee-Line are located on Lockwood Avenue to navigate Yonkers or head into Manhattan. Commuters use the Bronxville Train Station, 2 miles away, to reach Grand Central Station in an hour and a half. The North-South County Trailway weaves around the eastern and northern borders of Bryn Mawr Park. Residents can jump on this 36.2-mile trail at several points in the neighborhood and run, walk or bike south toward the Bronx in New York City or north toward Yorktown. The trail borders the Dunwoodie Golf Course, a hilly 18-hole public course built in 1903. Henning Park has 7.6 acres of wooded and hiking trails in the neighborhood on sloping terrain. Welty Park is smaller, with only 3.9 acres, but offers more amenities such as a playground, sports fields and benches. The Ridge Hill Mall offers indoor skydiving, a trampoline park and the LEGOLAND Discovery Center for indoor recreation.

Shopping and dining on Lockwood Avenue and Saw Mill River Road
Most shopping and dining are located along Lockwood Avenue within the neighborhood and Saw Mill River Road, just outside the area. George’s Luncheonette serves breakfast and lunch specials from behind a soda counter straight out of the 1950s on Lockwood Avenue. Nearby, Toasty Sandwich Shop offers sandwiches, sides and drinks in a casual, modern setting. Bryn Mawr Market is good for quick grocery stops, but residents head to the ShopRite in Tuckahoe for full restocks.

Empire City Casino to transform into MGM Empire City
Empire City Casino, 3 miles away, offers primarily table games but also hosts live music events and horse racing. MGM International Resorts plans to transform Empire City into MGM Empire City with a new casino floor, eateries and other entertainment options. Religious services are held within and outside the area at St. Bartholomew’s Church, Andalusia Islamic Center and the Northeast Jewish Center. The Northeast Jewish Center, 2 miles away, offers a place of community, hosting clubs and organizations for the congregation.
