Just 30 miles southeast of Washington, DC, Yorkshire is a census-designated place situated near Manassas and Manassas Park. With a population now approaching 10,000, this little locale has grown 30% since 2000. “You’re close to everything right here, including Manassas proper and Interstate 66,” says Matthew Cernoch with Bradley Group Realtors. The Manassas Park Station is part of the Virginia Railway Express that connects outlying small cities of Northern Virginia to Union Station in DC. “I’ve lived in Yorkshire for close to 20 years, and I absolutely love it because it’s a great little suburb.”

With a median sale price of around $450,000 in October 2023, the real estate market in Yorkshire is very competitive because of a more attainable cost of entry than suburbs closer to DC. Densely populated, this area has a busy suburban feel, and most residents rent their homes. “One big thing in Yorkshire is there is no HOA, which is great for business owners,” Cernoch says. There is a diversity of housing in Yorkshire, with a healthy inventory of condos and town houses supplementing the single-family homes available. The median year built for a single-family home is around 1976, but the town houses in the area have been built more recently to keep pace with growing demand. Homes range in price from around $300,000 on the low end to upwards of $800,000 on the high end. Many contemporary homes line the sidewalks and tree-lined streets, some with meticulously maintained landscaping. “A lot of people are building new homes right now, and the property sizes are a little bigger than you can get in other areas nearby,” Cernoch says.

Families with children are served by Manassas Park City Schools, an above-average district with an A in diversity from Niche. “Being in Prince William County, there’s the opportunity to apply to the charter schools, which are free and part of a lottery,” Cernoch says. Students can start their education at Yorkshire Elementary School, a walkable community school with a C-plus grade. The school offers Library Lessons for 45 minutes once every six school days, during which students receive proper instruction on the use of book care and digital tools. With a B-minus grade from Niche, Manassas Park Middle School hosted its own Special Olympics in October 2023. Named a standout high school in DC by Niche, Manassas Park High School gets an overall grade of B. The school offers outside-the-box activities like the Crochet & Sewing Club, eSports and the Scholastic Bowl academic competition.

Primarily residential, Virginia 28 is the main district running through Yorkshire. Lined with car dealerships, hotels and hot spots like 7-Eleven and Dunkin Donuts, Centreville Road is the area’s commercial core. For residents, Megamart Manassas is the perfect place for stocking up on groceries and essentials. The Yorkshire Restaurant is a down-to-earth, family-run diner offering classic American eats, including breakfast, seven days a week. A modest storefront with a famously rustic wood interior, guests rave about the pancakes and the sausage gravy. Established in 2018, the Eavesdrop Brewery was once a racing pigeon loft that now supports the beer-making process. The brewery offers spacious outdoor seating set with beautiful landscaping in warmer months and firepits and cozy seating in the winter. The Flaming Grille promises a robust buffet sure to satisfy your hunger.

Just an hour east of the Blue Ridge Mountains, scenic Yorkshire has easy access to plenty of parks and green space. Bull Run Regional Park offers 1,500 acres of natural space and facilities for outdoor adventures and activities. Families love the waterslides at Atlantis Waterpark, where you can book large picnic areas, campgrounds and cottages. Westfields Golf Club is a Fred Couples-designed course that promises an unmatched experience for both casual and accomplished golfers alike. The greens are well-manicured, with tight fairways and a thick rough. Nearby, Manassas Park Dog Park is popular with pet parents who enjoy its woodchip base and separate areas for big dogs and small. Set upon nearly 28 acres with an all-ages play structure, Joseph D. Reading Park is the perfect place for a walk in the woods or a game of tennis.
