Long Beach is the second-largest city in Los Angeles County. This coastal town also houses America’s second-biggest container port. However, Long Beach isn’t your average port city. It has a rich culture and heritage that makes it a popular travel destination. Long Beach has many waterfront style homes that combine mission architecture with colorful and sleek designs. Many houses in Long Beach feature large windows and spacious interiors. Houses along the coastline are generally larger than their inland counterparts that are closer to the Pacific Coast Highway.

Long Beach has a Mediterranean climate. It gets morning fog in the summers that generally lifts by the afternoon. As with Southern California in general, Long Beach’s climate is relatively warm year-round. The city has 92 parks, including the large El Dorado Regional Park. This park has fishing lakes, bike trails, picnic areas and an archery range. Long Beach is a highly active community that has many sporting events, such as the Long Beach Grand Prix and the Long Beach Marathon. Residents can also take advantage of sailing and water skiing opportunities. Long Beach has a large college community, with an average of 35,000 students enrolled in California State University, Long Beach each year. The combination of the large container port, the strong music scene and the influx of university students makes this city highly racially and culturally diverse.

While Long Beach is still a popular location for both the film and music industry, the city had a musical explosion in the 90s, with now famous residents such as Warren G, Sublime, Snoop Dogg and Nate Dogg. The city is recognized for its street art, with its combination of professionally painted murals and independent pieces. The "Retro Row" area of Long Beach along 4th Street is a quaint hub for artists, writers and dreamers. This street combines the relaxed feel of a coastal town with a vibrancy comparative to a big city. This district has over 40 independent merchants, with enticing shops that offer quirky and creative items that are of high artistic quality. Belmont Shore, or "The Shore," is the city’s business district. Here residents find upscale shops, coffee houses and restaurants. While Long Beach is the second-largest city in Los Angeles County, it has a relatively small feel. Its coastal boundary makes up almost one-fourth of its complete circumference. With its proximity to both Los Angeles and Orange County, it makes for an ideal location whether one works in the city or commutes in either direction.
