A fast-growing city outside Dallas is getting even bigger.
Construction is expected to begin in the fall on a master-planned community in Anna, Texas, that is set to contain 1,800 home lots, according to local economic development officials. The first residents of Liberty Hills would move in by 2027.
The project is planned to be built on 1,035 acres along U.S. Highway 75 on the northern edge of the city.
Anna, about 45 miles north of Dallas, has nearly 30,000 residents. It's the nation's fourth-fastest-growing city among municipalities with populations of 20,000 or more, according to the latest figures from the U.S. Census Bureau.
With a population of 8.1 million, the Dallas metropolitan area is the fastest-growing region in the country, Census data shows. Homebuilders are scouring North Texas for land to accommodate demand.

Last fall, Rockhill Capital & Investments said it acquired 116 acres in Anna for a development of its own with 325 homes. Construction there is expected to begin in the second quarter.
The first phase at Liberty Hills will feature 269 lots with homes ranging from 1,800 to 4,000 square feet and prices starting at $500,000, the Anna Economic Development Corp. said in a statement. Homebuilders in the first phase will include Grand Homes, Perry Homes, Shaddock Homes and William Ryan Homes, according to Anna EDC.
The project's single-family developer, Veritas Communities, is expected to bring in more builders for additional phases. High-end multifamily housing and national retailers and restaurant chains are in the plans for future development.
“Our priority remains on expanding Anna’s diverse housing footprint to accommodate for growth, and also on offering a city with an outstanding lifestyle where neighbors can feel a deep sense of community pride," said Bernie Parker, director of economic development for Anna EDC, in a statement.
