The owners of a mountainous Dillon, Colorado, vacation home brought the look of the surrounding cliffside indoors. It’s listed for $5 million.
Stone can be found throughout: Gray and granite masonry in the kitchen on the ventilation hood and the countertop with a natural rough edge, and blonde stone wrapping the dining space and living room structural pillars. The home has four fireplaces, all clad in stonework.
The sellers even removed a wall in the primary bedroom to replace it with a large stone archway, according to listing agent Kerri Karcz of Colorado Real Estate Co.
“They had to crane that stone in through the window. As you can imagine, working on a cliffside like that isn’t easy,” said Karcz in an interview.
The owners purchased the home in 2012 for $1 million, according to Homes.com, and they overhauled the property. One seller is from Egypt, and the area reminded her of the Nile River, said Karcz. They purchased the home as a vacation spot to escape the Texas heat.

The three-bedroom, five-bathroom home was built in 1991 and has 4,257 square feet with two outdoor decks overlooking the cliff onto the Snake River, Swan Mountain and Wichita Mountain, additional vantage points to the home’s two-story windows.
“They had steps built into the rocks so it flows into the downstairs patio and blends everything together really well,” said Karcz.
It’s one of 100 homes in the Summerwood neighborhood of Dillon, where the median single-family sale price is $1.55 million, according to Homes.com data.
It would be challenging to build new construction along the same ridge, said Karcz, who pointed toward a new construction home underway listed for $18 million in April.
That home has seven bedrooms, eight bathrooms and 13,765 square feet. According to the listing, it was built as an “unfinished shell " so a future owner could make design decisions.

In the past 12 months, three homes have sold near Summerwood. A 1990-built condominium with four bedrooms, three bathrooms and 2,321 square feet sold for $1.8 million in March. A single-family home with 3,378 square feet sold for $1.79 million and a four-bedroom, three-bathroom condo sold for $1.6 million in December.
Dillon is located in Summit County, 14 miles north of Breckenridge and about 68 miles west of Denver.
