New York real estate giant Compass is partnering with a small, family-owned brokerage in New Jersey, both companies announced earlier this month.
Grace Realty opened in 1947 and specializes in serving Ocean City and coastal shore towns, including Upper Township. The company has amassed more than $500 million in sales since its creation, Compass said. Harry Vanderslice founded Grace Realty, and he now co-owns it with his son, Disston.
Grace Realty officially joined Compass on March 28, and the company has been renamed to The Vanderslice Group to reflect the acquisition.
Compass operates more than 500 offices across the U.S. At the end of the first quarter, it had 37,135 agents. The acquisition means Grace Realty agents will join Compass — including Russell Barham, Nicole DeFeo, Elsie Jamison, Mark Patterson, and Pat Wadsworth.

Harry Vanderslice helped develop two senior living towers, Osprey Point and Osprey Cove in Upper Township, New Jersey — an effort that generated more than $65 million in sales for Grace Realty, according to the news release.
Disston Vanderslice spent 2024 closing more than $76 million in sales, earning him the Circle of Excellence Platinum Award from the New Jersey Realtors for the fifth year in a row, Compass said.
Grace Realty decided to join Compass because of its referral network, Disston Vanderslice said in a statement. His father said Compass has a "commitment to agent success" that is a "perfect fit for us."
"Harry and Disston’s deep roots in Ocean City and their dedication to their agents truly resonate with us," John Bilek, the brokerage's regional vice president, said in a statement.
As of June 17, the Ocean City listings for single-family houses on Homes.com ranged from $550,000 for a three-bedroom, one-bath property with water views to a six-bedroom, 10-bath mansion for $14.9 million.
