A recently retired star of the NHL's Washington Capitals team that won professional hockey’s Stanley Cup in 2018 is selling his house in a historically significant area of Northern Virginia.
The home at 1004 Dogue Hill Lane in McLean belongs to T.J. Oshie, who tallied 302 goals and even more assists over his 16-year career in the NHL. The property is within the Langley Fork Historic Overlay District that includes a compound the Kennedy family owned until 2009, as well as the Langley Ordinary, a 19th-century tavern. Oshie’s 11,400-square-foot, six-bedroom home is listed for $9.85 million.

Coincidentally, a former teammate of Oshie’s on the Capitals, Nicklas Backstrom, is selling his own house a stone’s throw away on another street. Backstrom also left the team this past year to play hockey overseas. Both players bought their McLean homes when they were newly built in 2021.
Though Oshie and his wife, Lauren, bought their three-story contemporary home after it was initially designed, they added some features, according to Piper Yerks, who listed the house for Washington Fine Properties. They had just sold what Yerks described as a French Provincial-style house a few blocks away and wanted some of that European flair in their new, much larger home. They had a large stone patio placed behind the house and chose many of the interior fixtures.

“His wife Lauren has quite a design eye,” Yerks told Homes.com.
Some of the house's other highlights include cathedral ceilings over the main bedroom upstairs, an elevator and a lower-level bar and glass-enclosed wine cellar.

Oshie put his mark on the house, too, installing a playroom with an especially smooth cement surface (and nets for goals) for his children to play his chosen sport on. The Oshies liked the extensive yard space, too, which is broken up into several sections around the house. There's a heated in-ground pool, too.
“I can tell you how much those kids played in that yard, from the putting green to the field to the pool and outdoor fountain,” she said. “Every part of that yard is a destination for children.”
