Amid the market for low-cost, minimal commitment home design, homeowners are still dipping their toes into wallcoverings with peel-and-stick wallpaper.
After emerging as a finish option in the early aughts, peel-and-stick offerings gained traction for their straightforward installation and removal. Plus, the option was less expensive than traditional wallpaper, so it required less homeowner investment. In 2020, a year that saw some U.S. residents spending more time at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, search terms associated with peel-and-stick wallpaper began a rapid climb, according to Google Trends.
As interest continues, suppliers, small and large, are retooling their products to keep pace with emerging trends. Ondecor, a 30-person wallpaper company based in Spring, Texas, said it’s making one such move by expanding its product line to include “stylish nonwoven wallpaper,” according to a company press release.

Specified for commercial and residential use, the collection foregrounds peel-and-stick options in a range of colors and textures, which Ondecor described as a “great choice for those who like to change their décor often or for renters who need temporary solutions.”
The company’s recent peel-and-stick coverings also include vinyl wallpaper, an option touted for its durable and moisture-resistant qualities.
Chasing Paper, a Milwaukee-based wallpaper company founded in 2012, launched with a focus on peel-and-stick products and has remained a “a very popular category” for the brand, the company told Homes.com over email.

“We have also seen increased interest in peel-and-stick decals, which are great for kitchen and bathroom DIYs,” Chasing Paper said.
