Smitty Smith has been offering free webinars on Tuesday nights to customers eager to learn how to use grants and down payment assistance to “fire their landlord.” Now he’s bringing his real estate skills to a larger player in the Richmond, Virginia, housing market.
Smith’s firm River City Blues Realty merged with United Real Estate Richmond, according to a statement United released last week. The company, which supports 200 agents, bills itself as the largest Black-owned real estate firm in the mid-Atlantic region. It’s an affiliate of United Real Estate Group, which RealTrends ranks as the 12th-largest brokerage in the U.S. by volume. Smith will be lead broker for RVA Blue Realty, an independent entity aligned with United in Richmond, and United’s managing broker.
Also joining United Richmond, according to the statement, is June Smith, Smitty’s partner at River City, who brings expertise in homebuying assistance and negotiating complex transactions.
“Smitty and June’s reputation for excellence in instructing as well as their knowledge and support of first-time homebuyers and grant programs make them a great choice of a partner,” said Rick Haase, United Real Estate Group president.
Smitty Smith, with more than 30 years’ experience in real estate, “firmly believes that ‘credit is king, budgeting is not a dirty word, and securing financial assistance can make homeownership a reality,’” the statement said.
The Smiths’ River City Blues website presents “Grits and Grants” webinars on how to make homeownership possible, combined with video testimonials from clients who bought houses. On his site, Smith says he focuses on helping clients “create and maintain generational wealth through real estate.”
"With Smitty joining the leadership team and June contributing her expertise to our faculty, we are forming a powerhouse of knowledge, innovation, and support for both agents and clients,” said Jeffrey Finn, United Real Estate Richmond principal broker.
