A developer has plans for a mix of 2,200 condos, townhouses, single-family homes and apartments alongside shopping and restaurants on the western outskirts of Richmond, Virginia.

HHHunt Communities' The Aire at Westchester will continue a pattern of recent growth in Chesterfield County near the intersection of Route 288, a limited-access north-south highway, and Route 60, which runs east into central Richmond. The project will have walkable streets and parks close to Westchester Commons, a shopping center that opened in 2009.

The developer's construction arm will be one of the three companies building the housing, alongside Main Street Homes and Eagle Construction, according to a statement HHHunt released on Monday.

“We’re excited to collaborate with three trusted builders who share our commitment to excellence and community,” Jonathan Ridout, the company's vice president of real estate development, said in the statement.

Of the 2,200 units, 450 have been designated for apartments, with the rest for homeowners, Jon Mills, an HHHunt spokesperson, told Homes.com. Sales are expected to begin later this year, with condos and townhouses in the first development phase. This phase is also planned to include The Draw, a terraced park with a playground, walking paths, a pavilion with seating, grill stations, and other features.

The Richmond metropolitan area saw an 18.7% increase in active listings for sale in July compared to one year earlier, according to new Homes.com data. That ranked 27th out of the 40 regions with the largest rise in listings. The supply of homes for sale in June in the region, including the state capital and adjoining Henrico, Chesterfield and Hanover counties, was well below the level needed for a balanced market, Richmond Association of Realtors CEO Laura Lafayette told Homes.com last month.
