One of Riverside’s oldest neighborhoods
Arlington attracts those who want a walkable neighborhood under the SoCal sunshine. “Arlington was once at the heart of the citrus industry,” says James Monks, Realtor and Manager at Windermere Tower Properties and third generation Riversider. It was founded in 1875, making it one of Riverside’s oldest neighborhoods. Now, the community is made up of homes just a few streets from the Galleria at Tyler, a large shopping mall. With the elementary school located right by the park and across the street from the library, convenience is paramount. Arlington residents also benefit from proximity to downtown Riverside, about 7 miles away.

Single-family and manufactured homes
In Arlington, telephone wires hang over wide neighborhood streets bordered by sidewalks. In terms of residential development, this community is “a good example of post-World War Two growth,” Monks says. “People could buy their first homes with VA benefits. Now, there is a good mix of commercial and residential properties as old as 1920. But the most common home types are from the 1970s.” Arlington is made up of mostly ranch and Spanish-style homes, with some Craftsmans. Single-family homes range from about $420,000 to $730,000. Manufactured homes for senior living range from about $70,000 to $130,000. Arlington has active neighborhood associations.

Arlington has plenty more retail options at the Galleria at Tyler, such as Barnes & Noble and SEPHORA.

Fun at the annual chili cookoff
Every Memorial Day weekend, the Annual Chili Cook-Off & Car/Cycle Show tends to shut down Magnolia Avenue so that the community can gather over shared love of not only homemade food and cars, but also stop by the beer garden at this free event. Castle Park, a nearby small amusement park, keeps families entertained with mini golf, arcade and rides. Faith communities congregate at neighborhood houses of worship like St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and the Hindu Society of the Inland Empire. Those living near the historic Riverside Baptist Church will likely hear the church bells chime on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.
