It's a quite mundane high school. The teachers are overall good at their jobs, and most do seem passionate about their subject. The school does help a little with the college application process, but it's nothing spectacular. Really, it's just fine all around.

I spent four years there. Four. And overall I learned nothing that useful to me in adulthood or my college education. They would boast about how they were teaching and doing certain things in order to prep us for the real world or college life when in actuality it helped with nothing. I was thrown into the deep end for college with almost no knowledge than what I took it upon myself to learn outside of school. At this point I think they were just using the prepping you for college line as an excuse for things. Yes I encounter good teachers there but the overall education curriculum did not help at all.

One of the things i would like to change is the food at our school. If the food got better then i could see more people being well fed and more eager to learn.

The school infrastructure is in bad repair. The gym and theater are in poor condition and completely inadequate for the needs of the student body. The majority of the classrooms are "portables" that have been in use for decades without proper maintenance. The brick and mortar sections of the school...

I would rate this a 4 out of 5 because there are some things that need to be fixed.

Even though AVHS is a public high school, the truly caring staff, very helpful counselors, excellent teachers, devoted sports coaches, spirited students and the approachable administration contribute to the warm "family feel" of an otherwise large establishment. The academic and extracurricular oppo...
