Round Rock Independent School District’s Patsy Sommer Elementary School (Sommer) serves pre-K through fifth graders in Avery Ranch. Like many schools in the area, Patsy Sommer is a high-performing public school with an excellent academic achievement record. The school’s namesake was a beloved former Round Rock teacher and administrator.
Sommer students work hard to master the reading, writing, math, science and social studies fundamentals they need to succeed in upper grades and throughout their lives. Sommer emphasizes project-based learning, which encourages ingenuity as well as critical thinking and collaboration skills.
To further enrich their days, students participate in engaging activities such as robotics club, math superstars and Destination Imagination. In this global program, student teams are challenged to find innovative solutions to real-world problems. Young creatives at Sommer can display their talents in a district-wide arts exhibition.
The active parent-teacher association enlivens the school year with special experiences Like Culture Fest, an event which features exhibits, games, food trucks and even a petting zoo. They also sponsor the school’s spelling bee and host fun movie nights.
