Founded in 1939, Travis Heights Elementary is a public charter school on Alameda Drive in the historic Travis Heights neighborhood. The school serves a little more than 500 students in prekindergarten through fifth grade. Travis Heights offers students greater autonomy than traditional campus models often allow, giving teachers the flexibility to tailor lesson plans to students’ specific needs. Through their dual-language program, young Thunderbird scholars are offered the opportunity to learn subjects in both English and Spanish. Gifted programs are also available for advanced learners, and the school provides a rich fine arts and music curriculum to nurture young, creative minds. Recognizing the prevalence of digital resources in children’s lives, the faculty integrates technology into the curriculum across the campus. Students can apply for Tech Team, where they can develop leadership skills and technological expertise to support the school. There’s also Primetime, a free after-school program that offers coding, dance, cooking and science classes. Staying active is also a top priority at Travis Heights Elementary. Its Outdoor School at Camp Champions allows students to go on camping excursions with their classmates, teachers and chaperones. Marathon Kids is another club that promotes fitness and healthy habits through regular physical activity, sports and service. At Travis Heights Elementary School, students and teachers are given the freedom and resources they need to build a strong community that is excelling toward a bright future in learning.

GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

We have been extremely happy with THES. I was initially concerned with the ratings, but don't be fooled by the numbers. This is a very inclusive and supportive school. The teachers and staff are top notch and have gone above and beyond to support my son. He also participates in the dual language pro...

This school has been great for my 2 kids. Great parents community. This is an in-district charter school within Austin Independent School District, so they have more freedom to try advanced teaching methodologies. I recommend this school.

The school is very community-based. Lots of parental involvement, great teachers, active PTA. I highly recommend -- I have twin daughters there, and occasionally substitute teach and am the PTA treasurer.

The characteristic I hold in highest regard is that even though much of the school is economically disadvantaged (~70%), most all the parents are involved. I walk my kiddos in everyday and am joined by parents of all races and socio-economic backgrounds. I see clusters of parents networking with eac...
