Highlands Elementary School has a long history of exceptional academics, parental involvement, and providing a secure hub for children to learn and thrive. This kindergarten through sixth-grade school opened in the mid-1950s to serve the growing community of Slaughterhouse Gulch and the Foothills neighborhood. In 2019, the old building was torn down and reconstructed to provide more classrooms, a cafeteria, a full gymnasium, a library, a playground, and an expansive recreation field. Here educators are committed to providing a safe space "where children come to know who they are and who they can become." Student performance is far above the state average in reading, math, and science, with several programs focusing on STEM-based projects and ensuring children get individualized attention and classroom support. Kids love the many after-school programs available on campus, including STEM-Lego classes, drawing and art programs, and the Boise Brave Biking Team, which has 6th graders race and compete for accolades and awards. As a parent of a Highland Elementary schooler, you'll have ample opportunities to get involved throughout the school year, including the annual "Brown Bag Parent-Child Luncheon" and the "Fall Festival," where the campus is transformed into a school carnival for all to enjoy. Spent one year here. Highlands is the best school in the best district in a state that consistently ranks in the bottom five states in the US for school funding. The fact it has high test scores and rankings is more because the statewide bar is so low than academic excellence or quality. Idaho does...

Highlands is amazing!!! I have spent k-6th grade at this school and now I am going to Jr.High, and I excel at art, math, science, history, and I even read FOUR YEARS above my grade level...
