St. Patrick Catholic School is a co-ed private school with an inclusive admission policy that welcomes students from all religions and faiths. Through the Matthew Morgan Options Program, St. Patrick also adapts instruction to serve the academic and social needs of students with Down syndrome. Founded in 1930 as the first Catholic school in Charlotte, St. Patrick is part of the growing Mecklenburg Area Catholic Schools system, serving about 200 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Situated in the Dilworth community on Buchanan Street, the school’s stonework architecture adds aesthetic appeal within a well-treed residential area.
Throughout its core academic curriculum, which includes physical education, computer technology, music and Catholic Religious Studies, St. Patrick strives to inspire a confident moral compass, a love of learning and a passion for serving. Classrooms are well-equipped with laptops, tablets and electronic whiteboards. Students also participate in a fine arts lineup of theater, band and choir. As a long-standing Charlotte institution, the St. Patrick community cares deeply about protecting the environment. Students learn about environmental stewardship from classroom programs and by harvesting from the school’s garden.
For additional enrichment, students can compete on the lacrosse team and join clubs such as student council, safety patrol, Irish Dance and chess, which promote social interaction, community involvement and physical activity.
