Superior Street Elementary is a highly rated public charter affiliate school in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Located at 9756 Oso Avenue in the city of Chatsworth, the school enrolls approximately 470 students and serves transitional kindergarten through fifth grade. Home of the Cougars, the school is an award-winning California Distinguished School Recipient and a National Blue Ribbon School.
Superior Street Elementary was ranked in the top 20% of all California schools for the 2018-2019 school year, showcasing the dedication of its staff and students. The vision of the school is “the quest for excellence for all students,” by providing academic excellence, cultural responsiveness and developing student’s critical thinking and creativity skills. Core classes include math, science, reading, English and social studies. The academic curriculum is rigorous, and students are taught to become self-directed learners as a substantial amount of homework is assigned daily.
Superior Street Elementary is a community-based school and parents are highly involved. The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) program sponsors an afterschool music program, as well as a variety of enrichment activities including a chess club. Admission is granted to students who live within the neighborhood of Chatsworth, and children who fall outside of the area are elected via public lottery in February of each year.
