One of fifteen Chicago Acero School campuses, Major Garcia High School shares Acero’s commitment to providing an environment centered around academic success and achievement. Acero focuses on diversity, acceptance, equity and pride in its culture and roots. Serving a ninth through twelfth grade population, Major Garcia High School is named after physician and civil rights hero Hector P. Garcia. The high school has a population of over 600 students who take advantage of the school's focus on STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and math), along with unique coursework in architecture, multimedia forms and the intersection of art and engineering. A tuition-free charter school, Major Garcia was opened in 2008. The school focuses heavily on principles of leadership gained through extracurricular activities, as well as a blend of both skills and content in the curriculum, encouraging students to examine their world with fresh and innovative eyes. Rigorous coursework in Advanced Placement (AP) English, Engineering and Environmental Science are augmented by extracurricular activities that include eight Patriot athletic teams, a literary magazine, debate, academic decathlon, a chess club and a pride club. Parent and community involvement is prioritized through volunteerism and other activities, including open houses, online community and shadow days.

Overall my experience was good, the teachers truly care about your education and will do anything to help you out. The school is a bit small which could be an advantage for some. Over my years at Garcia the most amazing thing Is the teachers they love to teach and will do anything to help you.
