Formerly known as Louis Agassiz School, Mary Church Terrell School is part of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, serving students from prekindergarten to eighth grade. The school, founded in 1929, is one of the highest-performing public schools in Cleveland, recently earning a five-star Step Up To Quality rating for its prekindergarten program. Students are in class from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, studying educational foundations such as math and language arts. Teachers also work with the promoting alternative thinking strategies (PATHS) curriculum, which focuses on meeting students' social and emotional needs while reducing aggression and behavioral issues. Additionally, Mary Church Terrell School imposes a dress code. Mary Church Terrell School takes its name from Mary Church Terrell. She was a civil rights activist and icon who went to secondary school and college in the Cleveland area in the late 1800s, becoming one of the first African-American women to earn bachelor's and master's degrees. Her story is one of inspiration and motivation, which has an impact on the school's student body. Recently, Mary Church Terrell School's Encore Expansion Program, a program designed to give students extra opportunities in music, art and sports.

My children hate this school bullied so much and teachers don't help they don't know what to do. My son goes here and he has a awesome teacher Mr. Mack, my son is in a autism class and this school has been nothing but helpful and supportive of my sons needs and meeting them without delay. From the principle to the lunch ladies, it's a great school all the way around.
