Community, connection and creative thinking come to the forefront at Coronado Middle School. With a strong, standards-based curriculum, social-emotional learning integration and a wide array of extracurricular programs, Coronado Middle School is a great option for young learners. The 650-student public school is located in the heart of Coronado across from Coronado Village Elementary and just steps away from Coronado High. With a student-to-teacher ratio of just 19-to-1, individualized attention is top priority. In recent years, new curriculum standards have seen great improvement in the school’s overall academic performance. Technology integration and STEAM classes ensure that students are prepared for the high-tech future and learn the essentials needed for both high school and beyond. The veritable offering of electives also keeps kids engaged. Students are encouraged to participate in a rotation of courses during each nine-week quarter, taking classes from introduction to coding and digital media to performing arts. Another perk of the school comes by way of its outdoor spaces. The school’s large courtyard gives students a glorious view of the open sky, and its blacktop courts and large sports field means recreation is within easy reach for recess and after school.

Collaborating with parents is left to administration. Teachers are discouraged from sharing real information. Principal Falar would rather see kids sit doing nothing, than teachers try. She takes on no problems to avoid causing ripples with district expectations. Her days are spent behind glass, in...

Great school. The school is why we moved to Coronado and we haven't been disappointed! Teachers go out of their way to help students and the content of academics is challenging. Good sports and other club activities. Worth the cost of living in Coronado just to get into this school.

Overall, this school is very good. There are small problems such as strange grading systems and not punishing bullies occasionally, but the teaching is incredible. As a student, I believe that I have learned a lot here, and whenever I get into academic trouble the teachers are always there to help m...

CMS on the surface seems like a great school. This year (2014-15) they officially rolled out Common Core Math and in the words of their own staff are " struggling with curriculum and how to teach it". Technology carts for the kids in use (required in Common Core curriculum) but only 18 tablets for e...
