Jessie Whaley Maxwell Elementary serves Montbello students from Early Childhood Education through the fifth grade. Located at 14390 Bolling Dr., the school was named for an extraordinary principal who opened doors and implemented the first afterschool programs in Denver. A dedicated teacher and administrator for over three decades, Maxwell was honored by the naming of the new school in 1998.
Maxwell Elementary prides itself on its steady improvement in academic achievement in the areas of reading and math. Reading and writing workshops are a fundamental part of the curriculum. The school also offers students exceptional extracurricular enrichment programs, such as the Generation Teach STEAM Academy, Technology Club, and Soccer for Success.
The school has firmly embraced the 21st century with a dedicated online lab offering art, coding, keyboarding, math, stories in Spanish and English, and a calming room where students and teachers, have access to soothing music, images, and videos. Even as Maxwell offers multiple high-tech resources to students, it also remains rooted in simpler values with a large community vegetable garden, sponsored by Denver Urban Gardens.
