Home of the Hornets, Halley Elementary School (Halley) is within the Region 4 division of the Virginia public school system in Fairfax County. One of the area’s elementary schools that feed into nearby South County Middle and South County High schools, it’s situated within Fairfax Station neighborhood, just a short drive from the Laurel Hill Golf Club. Named in honor of William Halley, a long-term Fairfax County resident and avid school system advocate in the late 1800s, the school's mission is to “create a solid foundation for lifelong learning.” The school is surrounded by a variety of neighborhoods, two school baseball fields, and an open field for play. It opened in September 1995 and now educates more than 650 students from kindergarten through sixth grade. Halley also offers a morning and afternoon preschool for children from two to five years old with special needs. Students have access to a variety of advanced academic programs, and Halley participates in the Youth Scholars initiative designed to facilitate entry into gifted programs. Led by Kerry Peerman, who was named Fairfax County Public School's Region 4 Outstanding New Principal, the staff of Halley Elementary challenge students to think critically, become problem-solvers, and positively influence the world around them.

Love the teachers! Class size is the biggest draw back. 29 1st graders / 1 teacher. They due a great job for those numbers but that's just not fair to the teachers or kids.

We love Halley's principal, teachers, and the PTO. The school provides a sense of community and identity for my kids, who love going to school each day. No school is perfect but Halley does an incredible job with its diverse mix of kids. Don't let the ratings sway you away - talk to a Halley parent...

I am so impressed with this school and the dedication of the staff. It is a very diverse population, and teachers have more challenges than at other schools in affluent areas. But the dedication to learning shows. I’m appalled by parents talking about “the bad kids… bussed in from other areas” aka,...

The bad kids in this school ruin the learning opportunity for the kids that want to learn, and more than half of the kids are bussed in from a good distance away. Truth hurts I know, Silverbrook is much better than Halley.

We have had a very positive experience at Halley. I do not believe this website's scores do the school justice. Halley has a very diverse population of students. There are a good number of students who are special needs/education (Halley is one of the few FCPS with a special needs pre-school) and wh...
