Ferndale Middle School is on the west end of Ferndale, one block from Royal Oak Township. The school has approximately 505 students spread out from 6th to 8th grade. Class sizes are slightly above the national average, with an 18 to 1 student-to-teacher ratio. Despite this, the school prides itself on offering a small-community feel for its students through personalized attention. Ferndale Middle School has a goal of challenging students to achieve their best in a safe and respectful environment. The school offers many clubs and activities for students. There is a 6th grade overnight camp, as well as an 8th grade trip to Washington DC. Some of the groups offered at the school include clubs for Anime, Jazz, Books, Student Council, and more. Ferndale Middle School has many academic achievements. About 25% of the students are members of the National Junior Honor Society. FMS offers many Honors classes for advanced students. Select students are eligible to take high school courses and can take part in the high school band. Ferndale Middle School is respected throughout the community. The school is known for its academic excellence and the many opportunities for student advancement.

Ferndale Middle School is a really good school. I feel they offer lots of extra curricular activities and my daughter has made plenty of good friends.
