O. Henry Elementary School is a Richardson Independent School District public school. The school serves students in prekindergarten through sixth grade. The campus is located off Tynes Drive in Garland.
The prekindergarten curriculum focuses on kindergarten readiness. The curriculum in kindergarten through sixth grade concentrates on four core courses. Every day students learn language arts and mathematics. They also learn science and social studies.
Students take one art and two music classes during the school week. They also participate in physical education and health classes. These classes are part of the district’s Coordinated School Health initiative, which aims to educate students on living an active and healthy lifestyle. All coursework has been developed using the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards.
Students aren’t required to wear a school uniform at O. Henry Elementary School, but there is an elementary student dress code. The dress code and the school’s Code of Conduct are available in the Student Handbook.
The school mascot is the Mustangs. Upon the completion of elementary school, students will continue their education at one of the junior high schools in the BerknerLearning Community feeder pattern.
