Holm Elementary School provides schooling for children from early childhood education (ECE) programs through fifth graders. Almost 500 students are enrolled at Holm Elementary, including their YMCA before and after-school childcare programs. Holm also provides free GED and English-language classes for its community members. These educational programs are funded through the school’s yearly Multicultural Day/Night event and the Husky Hustle fundraiser. The school’s ECE program incorporates a nationally recognized curriculum that promotes early learners’ vital progress in all developmental areas. Kindergarten through second-grade curriculum integrates mathematical concepts, reading, writing, speaking, and listening instruction. The Expeditionary Learning curriculum is used for students between the third and fifth grades, combining demanding content with real-life practice that help develop students’ deep understandings of mathematical and literacy concepts. Part of what makes Holm Elementary special is that over 20 different languages are spoken at the school and one class at every grade level is taught in Spanish to help transition native Spanish speakers. As with most modern schools, Holm also provides Chromebooks for every student in the second through fifth grades. With exceeding school performance scores, an exceptional focus on student success, and distinguished faculty staff, Holm Elementary School is favored by many members of the Hampden community.
