Like all the public elementary schools in Meyerland, Kolter Elementary School offers an acclaimed magnet program in foreign languages and cultures. Although a Kolter education can start in prekindergarten, the magnet program kicks off in kindergarten, when students begin to explore the languages Kolter offers: Mandarin, French and Spanish. In first grade, students choose a primary language to concentrate on. Using an integrated, experiential learning approach that emphasizes listening and speaking, Kolter develops foreign language skills while incorporating art, music, physical education and technology instruction. The school provides its nearly 700 students with numerous opportunities to learn about other cultures throughout the school year, regardless of which language track they've selected. One of four Houston schools irreparably damaged by Hurricane Harvey in 2017, Kolter was rebuilt over a span of 3 years. Opened in the fall of 2020, the new building features open and colorful spaces bathed in natural light. The two-story, 91,300-square-foot building also showcases an adjacent playground and garden as part of the revitalized facility. A Kolter education is prized not just for the amenities of the new building but for its academic results. Students are blowing their Texas peers out of the water in standardized tests for math, science, reading and writing.

Great community feel. Beautiful new campus. Staff and principal are amazing. Rigorous compared to other public schools, but the school's success reflects this in their high test scores.

If you could or want to afford a decent house in this area just for the school, then, think twice. The school is having a lot of student discipline issues; teacher student ratio is higher comparing to the other HISD good schools. Principal refused to hire a music teacher for already over two years....

Beautiful new campus, great principal and support staff. Teachers really care about the students. A bit more homework than other schools, but that is reflected in the great test scores. Great PTO and fundraising is limited to only one big fundraiser per year.

Wonderful teachers, caring administration. Great opportunities for kids to mature and learn and create lifellong friendships.

My daughters have been going to this school for 2 years. The intentions are good, however, there is a strong cultural/social presence that permeates the school given the area. The zoned parents hate that it's magnet and look down on "outsiders". It's highly political and favorites run plenty!
