Opened in 1999 as Alief Independent School District’s fourth intermediate school, Mata Intermediate School serves as a bridge between elementary and middle school for its 875 fifth and sixth grade students. The school enjoys lots of support from the community to help its students embody their motto and soar to new heights. One of the ways Mata students soar is through fine arts. Choir classes incorporate piano lessons so students enjoy a well-rounded musical experience, while the orchestra director strives to instill a love of music in children and enable them to express themselves through music. Art students are encouraged to enter state and local competitions and turn in outstanding work that showcases their talents. These efforts pay off, as Mata students were finalists at the Rodeo Art Show and earned awards at the Texas Elementary Art Meet. Students can further their educational, social and physical development after school in the CIA program. CIA, which stands for Children Interacting Afterschool, is a grant-supported program free for all Mata students. Kids begin their CIA time with a snack with their friends, before participating in homework lab and engaging in various fun, recreational activities.

I say this was a great school, I mean my 5th-grade teacher humiliated me multiple times because I wasn't doing my work and because I talk a lot but I loved her because she's a history teacher but overall this a great school

Bad, looking forward to move to a different location, just to attend to a better school. The teachers can’t speak proper English and no teaching skills because they are bilingual, but speaking more Spanish than English even when they call a parent to inform something related to the child’s education...

This school cares more about their personal issues than the education they are supposed to give students. The teachers participate in drama/rumors the kids are involved in. The principles are never in their office nor are the teachers ever in their classrooms. The staff acknowledge bullying going on...

I attend this school this isn't really what the school says they have to offer. All Staff members treat students unfairly, and the rules don't make sense at all: 1) Wear a belt if your pants have belt loops or lunch detention. 2) No Mohawks because they are not in dress code. 3) Sac. (detention) if...
