Haut Gap Middle School is part of the Charleston County School System. Opened in 2010 on 1861 Bohicket Road, the public school began in 1951 and served children of Johns and Wadmalaw Islands, with its first graduating class made up of five students. Haut Gap is now a partial magnet school with an Academic Magnet Program. With a state-of-the-art building and a 24-acre campus, it serves approximately 500 students in fifth through eighth grades. The school has advanced science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) coursework and an Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program which helps students achieve their goals of going to college. Students are required to wear uniforms of the school’s colors of red, navy blue and white. Serving a diverse student population, Haut Gap has several sports teams, a band and orchestra program, an outdoor classroom and garden in addition to after-school programs. Over 50% of the teachers have advanced degrees and 10 are “Gifted and Talented” endorsed. Haut Gap Middle School is a Positive Behavior Management Model School and equips their students with all the tools they need to succeed.

As a Haut Gap Middle School student, I feel very disappointed to even have step foot in this school. Every day i'm here feels like 7 years in hell. I went to the school and hated it, the benefit is that high school is a thousand times better in comparison.

My daughter attends the magnet program and has been there since the 5th grade. The education is challenging and everyone has been exceptional in making sure she understands the materials. I do feel like the diversity is lacking however the overall experience there has been a good one.

I'm a student from haut gap and I can say that this is the worst school I've ever gone to. The teachers they want you to know things right away. The students are very dramatic especially the girls .
