Madrid Neighborhood School is specifically focused on the formative years of education – kindergarten through eighth grade – with the goal of offering an all-in-one learning experience in one place.
Serving about 750 students in West Phoenix, this public school places a strong emphasis on developing collaboration, intelligence, and social-emotional learning. It has a low student-to-teacher ratio of 19:1, with a dedicated group of educators committed to seeing every student meet and exceed state standards.
In 2018, Madrid was a part of a districtwide, $10.3 million initiative to build new gymnasiums in several West Phoenix schools. Prior to 2018, Madrid didn’t have an indoor gymnasium; today, it’s one of the newest spaces at the school that’s home to sports, physical education classes, assemblies, and the occasional community event.
Instructors at Madrid were in the news in 2021 for participating in an exchange of ideas with other educators called the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools Connection, a web app that brings coaches and teachers together to share best practices and resources. This is one of the many examples of how teachers continue their professional development for the benefit of their students.
