Located near Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Va., Pole Green Elementary School is all about building community relationships. Known as the Home of the Gators, students in various grade levels have paired off and participated in community projects during the school year. Some projects by Pole Green have included Covenant Woods, Camden’s Cause, Red Cross stockings, and Juvenile Diabetes. In 2017, Pole Green was one of six schools nationwide to be recognized for its student engagement through STEM, and then selected for a live chat with NASA astronauts aboard the International Space Station Expedition 53. This school has offered, and strives to offer, unique and memorable experiences to each of its gators.
Despite having a high student-to-teacher ratio of 23:1 in comparison to the Hanover County Public Schools and state averages, this school is still above average in academic performance. Students are making more academic progress from grade to grade at this school than other schools in the state. Pole Green is among the top 20 percent of high-performing schools in the state for overall test scores, placing in the top 10 percent in math proficiency in Virginia. The school serves approximately 600 students in pre-K through fifth grade.

Excellent school..teachers...leadership. I highly recommend. My son wakes up bright and early daily to get to school. He missed PGES even on holidays and ASKS to go to school.

My son goes here, as did my daughter before. It has a wonderful staff. My son's teacher is amazing this year and you can tell she really cares about teaching her students. I could not be more at ease with my child's elementary years.

My son attends Pole Green. His current teacher is great, but he is in k at the moment. I feel there are staff members that do outstanding work.
