At the Home of the Statesmen, students of Washington-Henry Elementary School (W-HES) begin each day with a morning meeting where they gather in a circle for 20 to 30 minutes and interact with their peers. Morning meetings are about greeting fellow students, sharing, group activities, and morning messages. It helps build a sense of togetherness within the school. As part of Hanover County Public Schools in Mechanicsville, Va., W-HES aims to continue its strong literacy presence in the school by hosting literacy programs all year long, such as Literacy Week and One School One Book. Family is also a big part of this school. Inviting family to school events, back-to-school nights, and parent-teacher organized fund-raisers are all examples of how W-HES aims to emphasize the importance of togetherness.
Serving kindergarten through fifth grade, W-HES has a math workshop it implements within all grades. The math workshop involves having students engage in small group instruction and differentiated math tasks that are appropriate for their level of learning. The resources offered at this school are art, music, library, and physical education. W-HES believes music is an important part of student learning as it can provide students with stronger brain connections, bring cultural awareness and appreciation, and stress relief.

This school is a wonderful small family atmosphere. My 3 children attend here and they are supported by great teachers and a very active PTA group. I'm proud to have my kids learning and growing with the WHES family.

WHES is a wonderful school because no child there is left behind. They helped my Autistic son in all subject and made of him a more confident child, they brought him to A level on most subjects. Teachers are professional, caring and very encouraging for children and parents as well.
