GreatSchools Rating
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.

As a senior at McGavock Highschool I'd say the good things about being a student is the community. The connections you make with the teachers and students are important and help u in the long time. The only bad things I'd say about McGavock is that the students don't engage in class and reunion the classroom experience.

I gave McGavock High school a rating of 4 stars because even though its not the best school, it does have pathways for different occupations some students would like to be when they graduate college. you get hands-on experience for the pathway you choose, along with a teacher/professional who knows what they are doing. For example, I'm in the animal science pathway which was sorta "shut down" because of the animal neglect that was going on. The new animal science teacher had been trying to start anew with the program and bring success to the students there. She now has a cat rescue program that has been going on for a year now when the students can learn actual vet/clinic procedure. she is also trying to start up a doggy daycare that is going to be student run. In this pathway, at this school, I have learned about the anatomy of horses, how to mix vaccines, what to do when bringing in new animals, what to give an animal when they have worms and fleas, what not to do with animals, etc.

I like the teachers, staff, and academic subjects they provide. What I would like to see change is the sports facilities and coaches. They are average with an exception of the football team. Another thing I don't like is the safety, there are too many smokers. Overall McGavock is a decent school.

This is the first year dealing with this school. The Traffic is Terrible. We live 2.8 miles from the school , and it takes almost 30 minutes to get into the parking lot and they expect everyone to be there at 7:05. It is impossible to be early. The least they could do is have a crossing guard and or...

Worthless waste of space and time. If I had the financial ability, my kid would be anywhere but there, but I don’t. This is our zoned school and we have a year and a half left. He is buying his time, keeping his head down and doing what he has to in order to graduate with a useless piece of paper an...

As a business partner who engages with students on a weekly basis, I can attest to the dedication and holistic love at learning that is present at McGavock High School.
