Serving ninth through 12th grades, Edna Karr High School is the only college-preparatory school in New Orleans’ Westbank. The school was housed for nearly 50 years in a flood-prone building, but in 2016, ground was broken on a new campus. Four years later, Edna Karr High School moved to its location at 4400 General Meyer Ave. in Old Aurora. The campus consists of an administrative space, a 52-classroom building, two gymnasiums and four technical education classrooms. The school is part of the InspireNOLA charter school network and one of the few institutions in the city to have earned an “A” grade from the state department of education, a feat it accomplished five times between 2015 and 2022. Edna Karr has been named a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education and is known for its marching band and football team. Enrolling roughly 1,000 students, the high school has a 95% graduation rate, with 68% of those going on to attend a four-year college. Edna Karr High School provides transportation to and from campus for all students. The school also offers several Jumpstart programs that teach hands-on skills for real-world careers. Jumpstart options include video production, culinary arts, graphic design and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) courses.

My experiment with Edna Karr High School so far is an 7/10. There are many pros however, there are some cons. Edna Karr is big on their culture and making sure students have a good time in their high school years. They know when it's time to have fun, and when it's time to work. They also are amazing on sports. But sometimes, there is a lack of communication as well as creativity. When learning about something it may take longer for them to reach out to parents, teachers, and students. I hardly hear about any clubs or other things to join for fun.

In my opinion Karr has the potential to be a great school, but focuses too much on their athletics- football- more than they do on academics. I think if they but more time, energy and resources onto students who aren't athletes, we'd be better academically.

The only reason people want to go to Edna Karr is because of the football program and the band. The students make the school. Most teachers are alums who peaked in highschool and can't let highschool go because they don't have a life outside of it. OR they're newcomers hopping on the bandwagon. I do...

So I like that school because I can be better if I study and do my ACT practice test every day and the same goes for the book, too. Everyone at that school had a cougar fest this year 2016. It was fun and great. I gonna be graduating in 2018 in Karr in 2 years.
