L.B. Landry High School is located on L. B. Landry Avenue in New Orleans’ Whitney neighborhood. This charter school was established in 1938 and has the distinction of being named after Oliver Perry Walker and Lord Beaconsfield Landry, a doctor and activist in the Algiers community. L.B. Landry High School enrolls nearly 1,000 students from ninth grade through 12th. The 214,000-foot campus was rebuilt in 2010 following the destruction Hurricane Katrina caused in the state. The school strives to prepare its students for careers and college by presenting a challenging curriculum to stimulate creative problem-solving skills and conceptual understanding. L.B. Landry allows students to make decisions about their own futures. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, the school diverges into three specialized academies. In ninth grade, a student is exposed to courses from all three specialties so they can assess which program is best for them. The three specialties include the STEM Academy, Arts and Humanities Academy, and Business, Entrepreneurship and Vocational Studies Academy. The STEM Academy caters to science, technology, engineering and mathematics courses. On the other hand, the Arts and Humanities Academy offers digital media, history, visual and performing arts concentrations. Lastly, the Business, Entrepreneurship and Vocational Studies Academy features various trade courses such as real estate, cosmetology, welding, carpentry and small business ownership. L.B. Landry High School students can jumpstart their careers whether that be in digital media, cosmetology or health sciences. They will leave knowing more about their passions after high school.

My experience at Lord Beaconsfield Landry High School has been very excellent and encouraging. This school values their seniors and try to do everything they can to make sure every senior walks the stage in May.
