Saint Vincent’s Academy is a private high school located in the University Heights neighborhood in Newark, New Jersey. The school has been open since 1869, and serves young women in grades nine to twelve. Currently, the school has about 250 students. According to their mission statement, the academy aims to assist women in becoming creative activists in society through empowering them with challenging academic learning and life-enhancing Gospel-infused learning. One of the more personal aspects of the academy is their small student to teacher ratios of about 9 to 1. Among the many academic programs offered at the academy is the Biomedical Science Program, which aims to get young women involved in medical research, including health monitoring and treatment options. Additionally, the Students in Community program allows juniors and seniors to complete community service hours within the community at day care centers, nursing homes, advocacy centers and more during the school day. In addition to the academic programs offered at Saint VIncent’s Academy, there are several extracurricular and athletic programs as well. Students at the academy can participate in sports like basketball, cross-country, softball and track and field, as well as extracurricular activities like African Dance, drama club, Girls Who Code, International Club, Glee Club, Stand and Deliver, National Honor Society, Literary Magazine and many more.

My experience at Saint Vincent Academy had many ups and downs. There were times when students would I have to constantly ask for certain things that they needed or were interested in . But at the same time we all had a sense of unity as an all girls school.

My experience at SVA has been okay. The people are some what nice, but not friendly. The con about SVA is that we only are offered AP classes senior year. But other than that we have amazing classes. SVA will 100% challenge you, in a good and bad ways. But SVA will definitely prepare you for college.

Saint Vincent Academy is an amazing school for young empowering women. It is a school that united young women to sisterhood. When I first came in as a freshmen I was very nervous since I came from a public school but Saint Vincent Academy welcomed me and made me feel safe and at home.
