Hollywood Beach Elementary School (HBES) is a highly rated elementary school in the Hueneme Elementary School District, serving the Hollywood Beach and Silver Strand neighborhoods from kindergarten through sixth grade. Located on Sunset Lane, the coast plays an integral part of the school culture with one of the school’s annual traditions being a sandcastle day.
HBES offers a number of special programs including a first grade academic intervention program in reading, a gifted and talented education program for eligible students in third through sixth grades and tutoring classes for second through sixth grades. Hollywood Beach students have higher test scores than the California average and the student-to-teacher ratio is 26-to-1.
The school strives to instill in each student a “sense of pride, independence, self-discipline, academic excellence, and the desire to become an outstanding citizen”. Beach Pelicans, as the students are referred, are encouraged to treat everyone with dignity and respect.
Parents play an active role in the school, participating in all aspects of the program. This includes the school’s Hollywood Beach Parent Teacher Association, which provides leadership roles. Parent volunteers are mainstays in and out of the classroom, joining field trips as chaperones and assisting with performances and extra-curricular activities.
