Rio Mesa High School serves over 2,200 students in the Oxnard Union High District. Maintaining a student-to-teacher ratio of 23-to-1, this California institution is ranked above average.
Rio Mesa is one of only two high schools in Ventura County to offer the challenging International Baccalaureate Programme where students can pursue a Diploma or Career-Related Programme with options including automotive, baking and pastry, robotics, video and broadcasting, engineering or even mariachi.
The school’s special ATID track helps students prepare for a university experience and a career track offers robotics and engineering, skilled trades, culinary, multimedia and entertainment industry studies.
With individual and team championships under their belts, the Rio Mesa Spartans are competitive athletes. Multiple sports are available for participation throughout the year including football, soccer, basketball, baseball, track and field and water polo.
Rio Mesa students are active in many after school activities including a student-run literary and art magazine and newspaper as well as the popular Ballet Folklorico Club, where students can learn the regional dances of Mexico.

What I would like to see change is more school activities for students that actually want to participate not the one that do it because they were made to. Best experience is the football games because everyone comes out to have fun even if I'm not apart of the team. Worst experience is when people get into fight that can ruin their hopes of getting a college they want.

Rio Mesa has a great IB program that prepares students for college. IB program is perfect for students that truly are committed to their academics, but those who are not necessarily entirely committed to their studies may struggle. There are other class options outside of the IB program. Outside of the classes, Rio Mesa is very diverse and has many great opportunities to connect with others through the numerous clubs and sports teams .

As a student of Rio Mesa Highschool, my 4 years in attending this highschool institution my experience in academics and extracurriculars have shaped me to be a well rounded student. My school provides a caring and thoughtful system that accomadates to all students and grade levels. Personally, I have truely grown to carry myself professionaly due to the support system of Rio Mesa.
