Founded in 2006 by Rabbi Raphael Landesman and local residents, Shearim Torah High School is an Orthodox Jewish high school for girls in the greater Phoenix area. Accredited by the Torah Umesorah National Society for Hebrew Day Schools, its mission is to “impart to students the knowledge, strength of character, and life skills that will empower them to successfully engage all aspects of their lives as committed Jewish women.”
Most incoming students to Shearim have graduated from the Phoenix Hebrew Academy or the Torah Day School of Phoenix, and the current enrollment exceeds 50 students. Here, students can expect rigorous general studies classes (e.g., English, math, science, art) in addition to a core Jewish studies program. Over the course of four years, students will learn about Chumash, Halacha, Navi, Jewish thought/Hashkafa, Bekiyus, Jewish history and the Holocaust, Tefilla, and marriage and parenting, in addition to Hebrew proficiency.
Outside of class, Shearim also offers a number of student activities, including class and school wide Shabbatons, Rosh Chodesh events, student council, drama, yearbook, softball, and Chesed and Ruach programs. Recently, Shearim purchased new school grounds and buildings which include seven classrooms, a library, six offices, kitchens, and courtyards, with plenty of convenient parking as well.
