The Boston Globe called the Mary E. Fogarty Elementary School the best kept secret in Providence. Why? Because the work the school’s been doing with Nonviolent Schools RI has been yielding tremendous results. Administrators have been working hard to create a peace-loving and respectful environment. Since beginning their work with Nonviolent Schools RI and putting an emphasis on kindness, the school has seen minimal behavior incidents and kids really like coming to school. In fact, in a recent school survey, 86% of the school’s students say that there’s a positive energy in the school. Over the next few years, staff will begin working on building strong programs in reading and math as well as sports and the arts. There’s a mural on the wall of the Mary E. Fogarty Elementary School that features a picture of a globe lined with kids holding hands. Above it a message reads: “The peaceful community is the goal for the future.” Clearly, teachers, families, students feel the message rings true.

This is a really good school. My son's teacher is dedicated. My son is in Kindergarten and he reads really well for his age, and he also writes sentences. Teachers motivate students.
