Chamberlayne Elementary is a public-school, educating students from grades PK-5 in the heart of Chamberlayne, a northern suburb of Richmond, Virginia. The school has 317 children in attendance with a student-teacher ratio of 15:1. Test scores and academic progress are below the state average, particularly for students who are underserved. However, the schools mission remains to engage its students in diverse educational, social, and civic learning experiences that inspire them. Chamberlayne Elementary school was built in 1961 and was named after the surrounding neighborhood of Chamberlayne Farms. This community was built on land that was once an open-pasture field used as a landing strip by local aviation enthusiasts. Today the campus features a playground with a picnic area under the shade of trees, an outdoor basketball court and Little Library. Children can wait beneath a shelter at carpool pick-up or attend after-school programs such as “Love to Program with LEGOS” and “Our Kids Code”. Come see why students love to show their Bobcat pride at Chamberlayne Elementary school.
