Opening in 1905 in historic Church Hill, Chimborazo Elementary earned its name from the expansive Chimborazo Park in the town, which is believed to be named after an Ecuadorian volcano.
This Title I school is the first elementary school in Central Virginia to have an International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program. The IB program includes six transdisciplinary themes, including who we are, where we are in time and place, and how we express ourselves. The themes are designed to provide students with opportunities to learn and engage with local and global issues. Each theme is addressed every year by all students, with units of study lasting for several weeks.
The school also participates in Lit Limo, a book program that gives each student aged 0-18 a free book when they visit the Lit Limo on scheduled dates. Students can also participate in a read-aloud and register for a Richmond Public Library card.
Chimborazo Elementary serves approximately 400 students in pre-K through fifth grade. The student to teacher ratio is 16:1, which is just slightly higher than the state average of 14:1

Chimborazo is horrible for students with disabilities. They never get the individual support they actually need because every student here needs some kinda support. Not to mention the students bully my kid with disabilities because he different.
